What services do I offer?

What massage therapeutic techniques do I perform?
I perform Swedish, Deep Tissue, Acupressure, and Shiatsu massages.

How do they differ?

Swedish Massage is used to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles.  It flushes the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes.  It increases circulation without increasing the heart load.  It uses kneading, friction, tapping, percussion, and "chopping" motions.

Deep tissue Massage is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is also a more focused type of massage, as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or knots (also known as "adhesions.")

Acupressure is similar to acupuncture but without needles.  It uses pressure points.  Using the same theory used in acupuncture, acupressure involves stimulation of the energy points to release stuck energy and allow the smooth flow of chi or energy flow.

Shiatsu is a deep tissue form of massage from Japan.  Rhythmic finger pressure is used to comprise a full body treatment.

Then I also perform pregnancy massages to help ease the back pain of the mom-to-be.

Where do I practice massage therapy?

I divide my time between Curves and Earth's Power Yoga.

How does the massage experience vary from Evolution Health and Fitness to Advantage Yoga Center?

At Curves in Los Angeles the table is thickly padded and the room is cozy and serene, a restful oasis is the fitness center.  There is a small fountain to add the sound of a softly babbling brook to the ambiance.  The lighting is soft and restful.  Most of the clients here are heavily into fitness or cardio-rehab.

Then at Earth's Power Yoga the studio is light and airy.  Peace is palpable, because the entire Center is designed for rest and restoration.  I employ a table heater there, year round.  HAYC was designed by a feng sui expert.  The massage studio is in the "Blue Room"--the Eastern-most room especially beneficial for peace and new beginnings.  Most of the clients here are into the self-care movement.

"Depending on the season and the client I use either Biotone lotion or oil.

I prefer to work in oil, but when the weather is hot, I find my clients are more comfortable with the lotion--it's cool and soothing and feels "lighter" somehow."

What type of background music do I use?

I use music designed especially for massage--by by that I mean composers who choose their chords and rhythms to calm the nerves and slow the heartbeat.  Although sometimes I use musical pieces that are energetic and uplifting too.
